The Archeological Civic Museum of Chianciano Terme is located in a beautiful building at the beginning of Via Dante, immediately before the historical center. The museum is divided in sections where different aspects concerning the history of the Chianciano territory are presented. The first section is dedicated to the most important necropolis in the Chianciano territory , situated on the northern side of the Astrone valley, along an ancient roadway, that through the Orcia and Ombrone valleys, connected Chiusi with the sea . If the most prominent margin of the necropolis discovered up to now is the one situated in the area La Pedata, others that are probably related to the same inhabited center, not yet identified, have been found in the areas Morelli, Morellino and Le Piane. The most ancient tombs , that date back to the last decades of the VII century B.C. have been found in the necropolis in the area Morelli, but in the area has also been found material connected to ancient Roman settlements. A few destroyed tombs dating back to the archaic and classical ages have been recently discovered and inside them ,
stencil decorated bucchero ( a typical pottery technique of the area) vases, Etruscan-C orinthian ceramics, small vases, etc. have been found. But the most clamorous discovery is that of the princely tomb , dug up in 1995, that has been rebuilt , life size, inside this section of the Museum.
