The Hole or Milk Tomb is a cave that unfolds for about hundred meters. The reason for the cave’s name comes from the fact that to the water that drips from its sides have been attributed miraculous virtues; that is, that if drunk by mothers while breast feeding their babies , it increases the abundance of the milk secreted. Archeological excavations have detected on the surface or not so far in depth, evidence of the Roman period (first century), that consist mainly of an altar consecrated to the divinities of the milk waters, with many ex votoes in clay; very small vases, fragments of swaddled babes, representations of breasts , etc.....and also bronze coins , that testify the faith in the healing virtues of the water mentioned above, at least up to that particular period. (Santi, 1798; Calzoni, 1940; 1941, Corrain and al., 1967).
